GCAP-Kenya Grieves Monica Amollo’s Demise

The Global Call to Action against Poverty –Kenya (GCAP-Kenya) is mourning the passing on of one of her founding members and staunch antipoverty campaigners, Mrs Monica Amollo.

Monica Amollo was among five people who died on Tuesday evening after the vehicle they were traveling in got involved in an accident along Homa Bay – Ndhiwa road in Homa Bay County.

GCAP-Kenya’s Mwangi Waituru through a post on a social media platform writes that Monica Amollo was very instrumental in the formation of the first GCAP-Kenya Council and the network is saddened by the news of her untimely death. 

Waituru recalls that Monicah Amollo was a champion in the fight against poverty & inequality who gave no foothold to any form of suppression or oppression against women.

 “I met her as we matched along the streets of Homa Bay during the 2004 International Women’s day; I watched her standards grow by the day.”  Mwangi Waituru

Acknowledging her role in shaping Kenya’s political landscape, Waituru notes that Monicah Amollo will be fondly commemorated for her influential role in the establishment of the Kenya’s Women Shadow Parliament and for fighting many political battles.

Monica Amollo was until the time of her death a nominated County Representative and Acting Chairperson of the former Kenya’s Prime Minister Raila Odinga led Orange Democratic Movement political party in Homa Bay County.
