FEMNET has expressed hope that the Government
of Kenya is going to consider instituting an all-inclusive consultative process
in defining a common vision for security in Kenya.
In a press communication released to
the media on 8th April 2015 by the organization’s Head of
Communications Nebila Abdulmelik, FEMNET proposes a path towards a vision that
would be shaped by the tenets of human security and underpinned by the rule of
law, as efforts to deal with fundamentalism and extremism in the region continue
to evolve.
The pan African women’s rights organization
which has over 400 members across Africa and in the diaspora expressed solidarity
with the people of Kenya in the wake of the terror attack at Garissa University
College, calling on the Kenya Government to urgently provide the much needed
material and psycho-social support to victims of the terror attack.
Recognizing the impact of the heinous
act of terrorism on Kenya and the global community, FEMNET says the Garissa attack had no justification
adding that such acts of fundamentalism and extremism have no place in the
world.
“Even sadder is that this attack comes
just days before the world commemorates the one year anniversary of the
abduction of hundreds of girls in Chibok, Nigeria, whom we have not forgotten
and continue to call for their immediate release and rescue. Both events took
place at institutions of learning and were a result of fundamentalisms and
extremisms that have no place in our world.” FEMNET
The women rights organization has also urged
the Government to uphold human rights principles in the fight against terrorism
and provide security to the Garissa University College and other institutions
across the country.
Meanwhile, the African Christian Arts Coalition
has also conveyed a message of condolence in solidarity with the people of Kenya
following the terror attack which took place on 2nd April 2015 at
Garissa University College, leaving 148 young promising leaders dead.
“We join the rest of the world, to
share in their sad moment; we pray God will give them the grace to bear the
loss. We must together fight terrorism as global community.” Said Dr. Prince Israel Orekha, - Coordinator African

On
Tuesday Civil Society Organizations led members of public for a night vigil in
Nairobi at the Uhuru Park grounds’ freedom corner in solidarity with victims and
survivors of the terror attack by the Somalia based Al-Shabaab militants.
