364 Day’s Days On, Nigeria’s #ChibokGirls Still in Captivity???????

One year since 276 innocent girls were abducted from a Government Secondary School, in Chibok, Borno State, Nigeria, calls for appropriate rescue action for the 219 girls who are still in captivity continue.

A combined social media and on-the-ground advocacy by concerned citizens, organization and global movements led by the Abuja family of #BringBackOurGirls demanding for the release of the #ChibokGirls has been going on but the girls are yet to be freed.

 

The #BringBackOurGirls movement on 8th April 2015 said it is extremely saddening that the girls are still in captivity with their abductors even as the one year anniversary of the abduction approaches on 14th April 2015.

 

“Although we have had diverse high level advocacy activities to mark specific milestone dates since their abduction, we had never envisaged that our Girls would still not be rescued nearly one year after their capture.”

The #BringBackOurGirls movement is however hopeful that the girls will be rescued soon and has organized a Global Week of Action themed “364 Days On, Chibok Girls – Never To Be Forgotten”

Organizers say the action week scheduled to end on 14th April 2015 is a reminder to the world that the 219 #ChibokGirls are still in captivity.

The action week will feature a diversity of activities among them a walkathon, a call for Special Juma’at prayer in mosques nationwide and Asr Prayer at the Unity Fountain; a call for Special Prayers in Sunday Services in Churches nationwide and a Commemoration Service at the Unity Fountain; Social Media Chats;  a worldwide School Girls’ March;  the presentation of 219  #ChibokGirls Ambassadors (as part of the Global School Girl March); a Commemoration Lecture by Cardinal John Onaiyekan – the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja and a candle lit vigil, and many other events.

Recalling the horrific terrorist bomb blast in Nyanya, fourteen kilometers from Abuja city center which killed scores; leaving many with various degrees of injury on the same day when the Chibok girls were abducted, the #BringBackOurGirls movement is also demanding for justice for all victims of terrorism in Nigeria.
