Africa gears up for 3rd International FfD Conference

Uganda’s National NGO Forum has developed a collective Africa Declaration on Financing for Development (FfD) ahead of the 3^rdInternational Financing for Development Conference scheduled for 13^th -16^th July 2015 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

 The National NGO Forum in partnership with Reality of Aid Africa Network, on 7^th& 8^th July 2015 hosted a 2-day Pan Africa CSO Preparatory Conference attended by over 100 participants from 25 African countries. 

Participants developed a collective Africa declaration on Financing for development was at the conference.
 

Uganda’s Finance and Economic Development Minister Matia Kasaija, cabinet colleague from the Ministry of National Planning David Bahati and representatives from the New Partnership for Africa’s Development - NEPAD attended the conference.

Nakiyima Esther Byaruhannga of the Uganda National NGO Forum says the government officials offered to support future campaigns and pledged to deliver on the outcomes of the FfD Conference in Ethiopia.

Elsewhere In Liberia, the National Coalition of Action/2015 has confirmed that the country’s Finance Minister Hon. Amara Konneh and foreign affairs Minister Augustine Kpehe Nganfuan have agreed to attend the FfD conference.

 

Action 2015/Liberia officials say the acceptance by the two ministers to attend the FfD conference in Ethiopia came through a reply to a letter they had addressed to the two ministers inviting them to prioritize attending the conference.

Meanwhile in Kenya, Action 2015/Kenya National Coalition has organized a National event on 11^th July, the Global Day of Action on Financing for Development, in Kenya’s capital Nairobi. 

A statement from Action 2015/Kenya by says the event will take place at Kiboro grounds in Mathare and will begin with a public procession at 9 o’clock.

Speakers at the event are expected to touch on issues revolving around financing for development, Poverty eradication, climate change and inequality. 

action2015Nigeria coalition will on 11th July 2015 stage a campaign event that will employ the voices of children, celebrities, and members of the civil society.

They will call for government’s increased public financial resources towards climate change, the health sector, girl and women rights, child welfare and financing for development. 

They will also be demanding for greater transparency and accountability in the management of public budgets in Nigeria.

Action/2015- a global campaign comprised of over 1000 organizations from different countries has organized a wave of activities in the run up to the crucial Addis Financing for Development - FfD Conference.

The Conference will gather high-level political representatives, including Heads of State and Government, Finance Ministers as well as all relevant institutional stakeholders and representatives from Non-Governmental Organizations and the business sector. 

The Addis International Conference on Financing for Development will result into an inter-Governmental negotiated and agreed outcome, which constitute an important contribution to the implementation of the post 2015-development agenda.

The United Nations summit for the adoption of the post-2015 development agenda will take place from 25^th to 27^th September in New York.

The final draft of the outcome document for the UN summit in September 2015, which will adopt the Post-15 Development Agenda, is out, but additional adjustments to the final draft is expected at the final negotiation session from 20to 31 July 2015, a week after the 3^rd International Conference of Financing for Development.
